Susan Carranza is a graduate of Louisiana State University. Her advanced training and experience is in art therapy. She now teaches art at a private studio, Spiral Gallery.
Susan’s personal art reflects numerous phases of both subject and media. Her early works includes a series of sketches and etchings completed in Washington D.C. In New Orleans she explored figure drawing, easel painting, papermaking, bookmaking, and collage. In recent years her collage constructions have taken a unique turn with the fusion of clay, glass, and found objects
Susan has always been a collector of visual artifacts and found objects,. As she combines these personal images- figure drawings, photographs, handmade papers, fabrics – they become tapestries of her experiences, memories, and hopes; layers of life’s dramas.
“We all live in the midst of our histories with it’s joys, conflicts, and contradictions. In the process of creating wholeness from these fragments, the art itself became an opportunity for expression and the collages, her open book.
